Petrochemical and organic synthesis processes generate complex by-products classified under code 07 01 Waste from the production, preparation, supply and use of basic organic chemicals. These include spent solvents, bottom residues, polymeric sediments and synthetic resins.

In addition to highly toxic liquid residues, organic synthesis enterprises also generate safe sludges from on-site wastewater treatment and other associated waste from this group.

Such materials are usually generated after deep biological or reagent-based wastewater treatment, when the concentration of harmful organic compounds has been reduced to permissible environmental standards. Despite their safety, they require careful handling, including storage at specialized sites with a solid surface and protection from precipitation to prevent waterlogging or secondary contamination of the area.

The most appropriate approach to managing these safe sludges and other organic residues is biological reclamation, composting using specialized microorganisms that break down organic matter, or their use as inert components for filling technical quarries.

This makes it possible to effectively incorporate these components into natural decomposition or land restoration processes, minimizing the amount of waste accumulated at the enterprise and ensuring compliance with circular economy principles.
