Processes involving the application of protective and decorative coatings, the production of ceramic products, and the preparation of special mixtures generate specific process residues classified under code 08 02 Waste from the production, preparation, supply and use of other coatings (including ceramic materials).
This category includes ceramic frits, glazes, slags, powder coating waste, as well as other waste generated during the spraying, firing or forming of coatings. Since these materials contain mineral components, polymer resins or pigments, they require careful control during their generation at the facility.
Environmentally sound management of such waste requires strict compliance with fire and industrial safety regulations, as finely dispersed powder coatings can generate significant amounts of dust, creating potentially explosive dust concentrations in workplace air, while ceramic and chemical residues may contaminate the environment.
It is strictly prohibited to store them in the open, allow them to accumulate on production sites, or dispose of them at general waste dumps without protection from wind and precipitation. Businesses are required to arrange sealed temporary storage in enclosed hoppers, containers or bulk bags equipped with an aspiration and filtration system, and transfer them to licensed waste operators.
The most appropriate approach to managing this waste is recycling and reuse within the production cycle in accordance with the principles of a circular economy.
Collected excess powder coatings can often be sieved and returned to coating processes, while off-specification ceramic materials and other non-recoverable residues are sent to specialized facilities for safe crushing, stabilization or disposal at industrial waste landfills.
