This group includes waste liquid paints and varnishes, off-specification pigment mixtures, paint and varnish sludge from the water curtains of spray booths, solvent residues, contaminated rags and filters, as well as stripping agents and waste from abrasive surface cleaning.

As these materials contain organic solvents, heavy metals, resins and toxic pigments, they pose an increased fire and environmental hazard.

Environmentally sound management of such waste requires strict compliance with fire safety and occupational health and safety regulations, as liquid paint and varnish residues and solvents can release flammable vapors, form explosive mixtures in the workplace air, and contaminate soil and aquatic ecosystems in the event of an uncontrolled spill.

It is strictly prohibited to discharge them into municipal sewage systems, burn them in the open air, or dispose of them at general municipal waste landfills. Companies are required to arrange for sealed temporary storage in special metal or chemically resistant closed containers and transfer these hazardous materials exclusively to licensed operators.

The most appropriate approach to managing this waste is regeneration, recycling or high-temperature treatment rather than direct disposal in landfills.

Liquid residues of solvents and paint and varnish mixtures with acceptable purity levels may undergo distillation to recover solvents for reuse in the production cycle, while sludges and solid residues unsuitable for regeneration are sent to specialized facilities for controlled thermal destruction with energy recovery and multistage emission treatment.
